DMCI STRATEGIC PLAN

MISSION:

The Mission of Downtown Moncton Inc. is to champion the interests of property and business owners while fostering a positive and dynamic environment for working, shopping, relaxing, living, and investing downtown.

 

VISION:

Downtown Moncton is a safe, clean, vibrant gathering place featuring an appealing mix of people, services, activities, architecture and urban spaces.

 

1. DOWNTOWN INFRASTRUCTURE

 

Goal - To develop Downtown Moncton as the most attractive and dynamic economic centre in New-Brunswick.

 

Initiatives -

1)      Metro Centre (Trade & Convention Centre/Arena)

2)      Lobby DMCI goals to decision makers for the Justice Facility (Connectivity; Pedestrian friendly; Architectural distinctive; Sustainability: LEEDS)

3)      Police Headquarters

4)      Tree Planting plan

5)      New Festival Hall

 

 

2. DOWNTOWN PARKING

 

Goal - Easy accessible, affordable and convenient

 

Initiatives -

1)      Parking structure

2)      Educate public to change perception of lack of parking

3)      Increase awareness

 

3. DOWNTOWN SECURITY

 

GoalTo maintain Downtown Moncton as a secure workplace and tourist-friendly venue. 

 

Initiatives -

1)      Continued Safety programs — Oultons Cadet Program, Reconnect, Education (DSRT)

2)      Seasonal promotions — Xmas lights, sidewalk cafe

 

4. DOWNTOWN RETAIL

 

Goal - Assess, establish and implement strategies

 

Initiatives -

1)   Implement a new retail strategy

2)   Promote availability of retail space

3)   Continue to develop partnership

4)   Create & define the downtown shopping experience

 

5. DOWNTOWN LEISURE & CULTURE

 

Goal - To promote leisure & cultural activities within Downtown Moncton.

 

Initiatives -

1)      Promote leisurely assets — Capitol Theatre, Tail System, Bore Park

2)      Identify enhancement opportunities & lobby — flood lights, signage by-law

3)      Promote and develop festivals & events — use to showcase downtown

4)      Create a policy for Events & Festivals

5)      Playground in Riverfront Park

 

 

6. DOWNTOWN LIVING

 

Goal - To promote the growth of residential development within our downtown

 

Initiatives

1)      Create inventory of land space

2)      Create inventory of living space & promote

3)      Lobby city to make downtown friendly for residence

4)      Lobby to have Tax Abatement Program extended to residential development

Retail Study

An analysis of Greater Moncton Retail was done in October 2005 by ShiftCentral.

The City of Moncton Downtown Strategic Parking Study was done in September 2006. The primary objective of this study is to quantify existing parking needs and issues and to propose strategies to deal with existing and future parking requirements.

Downtown Moncton Developement Vision

The Downtown Moncton Development Vision is a high level vision document intended to guide development and investments in Downtown. It was commissioned in 2006 by the City of Moncton and Downtown Moncton Centre-ville Inc. (DMCI)
